Here’s a quick video on how to create a download link for your mp3 or voiceover demos that automatically prompts the visitor to save it to their computer. The advantage of this technique is that it avoids an extra step for your visitor; They won’t have to right-click (or CTRL+click on a Mac) and then choose to download it. More importantly, it won’t open up the annoying embedded mp3 in the middle of a new or the same window. The latter is usually a result of having linked directly to your audio.

I can think of other uses for this other than serving your demo. For example, if you change the “mp3″ in the PHP code to say “aif” or “wav” and create a path to a folder on your website where you store your final voiceover files for your clients, you can then simply send your client a link to that file (formatted as described in the video) that will prompt them to download it; all without having to give them an FTP login and protecting your folder at the same time since you won’t be revealing it in the link.

Hello, I have been working in the entertainment and performance arts genres for many years – entertaining all ages and with many alter egos from Ingo the Clown for children to Paisleyx for the more risque cabaret.

For many, many years I have been advised to use my voice for voiceovers as I not only have many characters in the visual form but the voices to go with them.

The constant problem for me is I am very ignorant re: the technical side of things and have never understood how to have a voice-over recording made, placed on my site etc. Am in dire need of advice with this – work alone and semi-reclusive so do not have many friends to help and advise me either. I would love to simply find someone who says ‘come in and audition’ my voice and shows me how to make a recording that I can send out to prospective clients.

Kindest Regards,

Gill

Evening Gill.

I would attend one on my 1 Day Voiceover Workshops. This really is the best way to get honest professional feedback on whether you should consider this line of work.

The workshop is very relaxed and there is no need to prepare in any way. I will supply all course material and the class size is limited to 6 people only. This allows you more time to relax and focus.

After the workshop I will email my honest thoughts along with MP3 files of your workshop recordings for your records.

I have also sent you an email saying the same.

I hope to hear from you. –

JP
